Steve Smithson is a semi-retired academic, having spent most of his working life teaching and researching at the London School of Economics. He lived in a block very similar to the one described for some eighteen years before recently moving. He has published two other works of literary fiction: The Man Who Sang Along and Badgers, Barkers and Baxters, both through Lulu.
