Born in Chicago, IL and raised in North Mississippi, J.D. Parks has been a strong advocate for social justice and education; she believes in providing safe spaces for those who are typically silenced such as minority people, students, and teachers. Hence, she enjoys exploring and combining the lived experiences of under-privileged and under-represented people in cross-genre fiction. J.D. has served as a high school English teacher and is currently an English professor at a Historically Black College & University (HBCU) located in the Mid-South. When she's not writing, reading, or performing both simultaneously, she is relaxing with her family at the nearest TGI Fridays and sipping from a tall glass of strawberry lemonade.
