Resulting from wholly unexpectedly being incarcerated in foreign prisons for 5 months in 2009 for financial crimes he'd never committed, Chris Chesney wrote "A Consuming Rage". Whilst this was cathartic in itself, it gave him a taste for writing, and he has followed up that first book with "Tales of Travelling and Working Abroad", in which he details the many weird and wonderful events he experienced whilst working outside the UK, mostly for US banks or financial institutions. Whilst many of these events were harmless and simply reflected the alternative ways in which different cultures view the same subject, he also came across a number of instances where, especially with citizens from southern European countries, morality was a word that could be constructed in any number of ways. Autorenporträt
Qualifying as a Chartered Accountant in 1974, Chris Chesney then moved into finance and banking, principally for major US banks and financial institutions. He mostly worked outside the UK, retiring back there in 2000 aged 57 when, to avoid boredom, he formed his own consultancy company. An Italian client turned out to be an imaginative fraudster, to a degree that Chris only discovered when he was arrested in Paris in 2009 under an EAW issued by the Tribunale di Roma, even though it had been wholly dismissed by the UK courts. Ping-ponging between prisons and courts in both Paris and Rome on a seldom explained or understood basis (including by the prosecution) Chris spent almost 5 months in prisons in France and Italy before he managed to escape the clutches of the Italian Judiciary and return home in October to commence a new career as an author.
