Tamara Madden was a Jamaican-born, American-raised, mixed-media artist and professor of art and visual culture at Spelman College in Atlanta. Taking inspiration from her homeland, Gustav Klimt, and Milwaukee artist Ras 'Ammar Nsoroma-among others-Madden often depicted powerful Black women of the African diaspora, royal and draped in elaborate headdresses and lavish ensembles.
