Becoming a nurse was always my dream and my reality was achieved with lots of hard work and studying. However, nothing has ever run smoothly in my life. I strongly believe that being a nurse has helped me untangle the process of caring for my disabled child. From a young age I have always loved my poetry and I continue to use it to get my point across in a light hearted way. My wish is that one day those in authority will change the way they view disabled children and rather than paying lip service, they will actually deliver what the child needs without throwing up constant challenges. Everyone deserves to reach their full potential and I am hoping that other parents/carers in similar situations will take comfort from reading this book, but also that health professionals will take on board and learn from the experiences I have lived and continue to live. Step inside a real story of a real mum and her son, and reflect upon and learn how to manage the services better, either as a service user or provider. A big dollop of humour really does help alongside a giant bar of chocolate or bag of chips!
