Dr. Richard Hamilton is chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Hamilton has been a faculty member at the College since 1997. A Philadelphia native, Dr. Hamilton received his undergraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania and his medical degree from Hahnemann University. After medical school, he was on active duty as a U.S. Navy flight surgeon, performing research in aerospace medicine. He completed his emergency medicine residency at Bronx Municipal Hospital Center, Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, New York. He subsequently completed a fellowship in medical toxicology at New York University, where he was also a faculty member working in the Emergency Department of New York City`s Bellevue Hospital. Dr. Hamilton is board certified in emergency medicine and medical toxicology and is a captain in the US Naval Reserves. In 2003, he spent two weeks in Ghana, where he participated in the Navy`s West African Training Cruise Medical Outreach Program. He was mobilized to active duty for one year in 2004 under Operation Enduring Freedom.
