The humidity in the troposphere is the reason for water particles in different sizes and shapes, the so-called hydrometeors. Measurements from microwave radars deliver the possibility to characterize and analyse the hydrometeors. This is one important part of the study. On the other hand, scattering simulations of electromagnetic waves, as recorded with weather radars, were processed to study further attributes. The classification of the particles itself is then a combination of the results from the radar data measurements with the simulated values based on the scattering theory. The unique features of different classification methods with their specific constraints and performance enable the creation of a new classification algorithm. This scheme is well applicable for differentiating between the hydrometeor types especially for the transition from snowflakes over-to melting particles and finally to raindrops.
