Te Uruhina McGarvey-Tiakiwai (born 27 September 1927) is a prominent M ori kuia. Of Ng i T hoe and Te Arawa iwi descent, she was born in the Te Urewera region of the northeastern North Island of New Zealand. Te Uruhina married Kupai McGarvey, the right-hand man of the M ori Queen, Dame Te Atairangikaahu for the Ruatoki rohe. In 2009 McGarvey was awarded a Sir Kingi Ihaka award at the Creative New Zealand Te Waka Toi Awards in recognition for her "lifetime contribution to the development and retention of M ori arts and culture.
