An effective teacher is an invaluable aid to student learning and students' life-long development and success. This study attempts to profile an effective teacher in the Trinidad and Tobago context, based on the perceptions of the major stakeholders in education. The findings have shown that there are distinctive qualities which effective teachers possess. The development of these qualities and skills should be focused on at teacher preparation institutions so that every child in the education system can be assured of being exposed to effective teachers.

Ms. Linda Superville is an experienced educator who has taught at the secondary and tertiary levels. She is passionate about the improvement of teaching and learning and has published articles and presented papers at conferences. Her research interests include male academic underachievement and improving teacher effectiveness.
