Teachers' Pedagogical Thinking challenges teachers and teacher educators to consider teachers' work from various points of view. The most recent research on teachers' thinking is used in building the theoretical framework for these concrete case studies. In these empirical studies, teachers' thinking is studied in different contexts, including teachers' mind sets, moral issues, rules, recipes of good teaching, and the supervision process. Teachers' pedagogical thinking is explored in the framework of making educational decisions by analyzing teachers' arguments and justifications for their practice. The book offers both theoretical and practical knowledge on teaching. It can be used as a textbook in teacher education or as an updated research report on teacher thinking.
The authors of the book are experts in teacher education. Currently, they practice and study teaching at the University of Helsinki. They have published scientific articles in international journals and many national textbooks for teachers. Pertti Kansanen, Ph.D., is Professor of Education and the senior member of the team. His special research interests include research on teaching in general, ethics of education, and comparison of German didactics with American research on teaching. Kirsi Tirri, Ph.D., is Professor of Education. Her special interests are research on moral education and teacher education. Matti Meri, Ph.D., is Researcher and University Lecturer. His special interests are research on hidden curriculum and recipes for teaching. Leena Krokfors, Ph.D., is Researcher and University Lecturer.
