Among foreign piano methods quite used for teaching beginners in Japan, by the time of study, we found the North American, German and French ones. Mainly, two teaching approaches were used: the middle C method, and the multiple key method. In general, Japanese teachers quite used Beyer, Methode Rose and Thompsons as method books for teaching their students. They also liked to teach with Bastien and Burnam methods. It was interesting to observe that they used different piano methods at the same time, combining both Japanese and foreign piano methods for teaching beginners.
