Upon discharge he resumes his quest for love and finds a girlfriend he can talk to. The ending is tragic and mysterious. Throughout the story mike is comforted by a book he reads; the maxims within parallel Mike's experience in the cab. It is a dark and heavy story with moments of insight and humor. Mike tells his story in first person, so as to highlight his tortured mind. The story has themes of racism, classism, sexually, sexism and is sprinkled with blue humor.
