This PhD. study was conducted to explore the status
of translation courses at the ELT departments of
Education Faculties in Turkey. The study aimed to
develop a syllabus for teaching translation in
accordance with the findings. For this purpose, two
groups were formed: One experimental and one
control. The experimental group received education
through process approach, and the control group
through traditional approach to translation. Both
groups took one pre-test and one post-test. The pre-
and post-test results indicated that the
experimental group was more succesful in their final
translation products. Their success was further
confirmed by the questionnaire results in which the
students expressed their views about the approaches
to translation.The students stated that the process
approach contributed a lot to their ability to
translate.
