The teaching/learning of French as a foreign language in Angola poses enormous problems: that of the teaching methodology and that of the lack of interest of the learners in this language. Thus, to collect data related to these two concerns, the following research tools were used: teacher questionnaire, learner questionnaire, teacher interview, learner interview, educational authority interview and classroom observation. The major findings from the interpretation and analysis of the data indicate that the overwhelming majority of the teachers interviewed are ineffective due to lack of qualifications and professional experience, lack of teaching materials and poorly adapted curricula based on the content approach. As for the learners, the lack of interest in French is explained by the fact that there is a lack of opportunities for the use of this language in their country. The suggestions made to the teachers lean towards the perfect knowledge of French and the use of the communicative method allowing them to be more efficient.
