Team Type 1 is a professional cycling team based in the United States of America. It was founded in 2004 and is sponsored by Colnago. The team promotes type 1 diabetes awareness in cycling: a number of the team's riders have type 1 diabetes, including Javier Mejías, Fabio Calabria and Martijn Verschoor; and the team's co-founders, Phil Southerland and Joe Eldridge, are also diabetics. The team turned professional in 2008 after success in amateur races. In 2010 it had a UCI Continental licence but became a Professional Continental team in 2011, with a view to competing in the Giro d'Italia in 2011 and the Tour de France in 2012.
