This is strictly an investigation of technical competency improvement needs of carpentry and joinery teachers in technical colleges in Northern States of Nigeria. This study is of great benefit to the carpentry and joinery teachers, students, government, society, parents, and curriculum planners, thereby, making teaching and learning of carpentry and joinery in technical colleges more effective and productive. Through the acquiring of relevant skills, knowledge of students and the competencies identified would be used to improve the competency of their teachers for effective teaching while the technical competencies identified in the study could be used by the government to organize retraining programme for carpentry and joinery teachers so that effective teaching and learning can take place. The findings in this book shows that carpentry and joinery teachers need improvement in eighteen technical competencies in joinery, nineteen technical competencies in form work, twenty technical competencies in framing, twenty technical competencies in wood processing, eighteen technical competencies in woodwork machining and twenty technical competencies in AUTOCAD.

Dr. A.S. Omole studied at Kaduna polytechnic, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, University of Nigeria Nsukka and Abubakar Tarawa Balewa University, Bauchi where he obtained B.Ed (Technical); M.Ed (industrial Technical education) and a Ph.D in Woodwork Technology Education. He is currently a chief lecturer at FCE(T), Gusau. He is married, with children
