This study investigates pedagogical practices in online courses with adult professionals in a graduate level public administration program. Primary research data has been collected by means of surveys completed by students participating in online courses in which each learner s experience is drawn from in the facilitation of learning, and in which course materials are part of a process of interpretation, restatement, and re-interpretation. Findings from this study have been reported in this study, and may support the implementation of new pedagogical practices for professional adult learners taking part in online education. Additionally, suggestions for further research in both public administration education and other professional practice disciplines have been identified.

Dr. Alan R. Roper is an adjunct professor at Golden Gate University and University of Phoenix, and has served as the director of online learning for ten years. Dr. Roper is currently senior education specialist for the AOC/Judicial Council of California, and serves as a member of the faculty senate at Golden Gate University
