The Tees-Wear derby is a football local derby contested between Middlesbrough and Sunderland, in the North East of England. The Tees-Wear derby is not quite as intense or as famous as the Tyne-Wear derby, however it remains a massive game to both sets of fans. The rivalry is beginning to pick up momentum, over the past two seasons there have been clashes between both sets of fans; it can often act as a substitute to the most important derby. This often happened in the late 1990s when the two teams spent a lot of their time at the top of Division 1.
