At Kansas State he received Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors and won the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation''s best defensive back before being drafted by the Dallas Cowboys fifth overall in the 2003 NFL Draft. He also ran track, winning the Big 12 Conference 100 meter dash outdoor competition in 2001 and 2002, with times of 10.29 and 10.34, respectively, the Big 12 Conference 60 yard dash in indoor competition with a time of 6.65, and was recognized as the Big 12 Conference indoor co-performer of the year in 2002.
