Studying the Constitutions that Brazil has already had, makes us aware of the main contents of our history. From it we can perceive several things such as the country's economy, society and politics in a certain period when the Constitution was in force. Thus analyzing the constitutions from independence to the present day we can perceive the whole process of evolution that Brazil has undergone. Throughout our political history, Brazil has seven Constitutions. One in the Monarchy period (1824) and six in the Republican period (1891, 1934, 1937, 1946, 1967 and 1988). Some were promulgated and others were granted. We must remember that our constitutions are only texts. Whether they are mere utopias or serve as indicators for the conquest of rights and, consequently, for the construction of a more just and dignified society, will depend on our participation as men and women in search of true citizenship.
