Sharkface is a giant elephant seal with a huge nose, who has a run in with a great white shark. His face is scarred, one eye destroyed, but his spirit of adventure is undaunted. After his wounds heal, he departs on an epic journey from Mexico to Antarctica via the frozen north. Endowed with the ability to speak any language, Sharkface shares stories with the different creatures he meets; some he befriends, some he offends and some only want to eat him. On his quest to discover his southern relatives, he is lost at sea, attacked by killer whales and ensnared by a giant squid; he collides with a hungry polar bear, is nearly trapped in the Arctic ice and boiled by an underwater volcano. He encounters a group of singing narwhals, a gang of hoodlum dolphins and their chatty sister, and an angry walrus. He saves a sperm whale and learns to talk to humans, shares the rituals of a secretive group of beaked whales and slowly discovers the dark history of his ancestors. Sharkface is Odysseus, Uncle Wiggly, Bilbo Baggins and Forest Gump all rolled into one. The Adventures of Sharkface: Part One, Journey South is the "There" of Sharkface's "There and Back Again."
