This book can be viewed from three levels: first, a broad view is provided on the actual situation of the small-scale farmers in Suriname (national level); second, the current situation is provided on the livelihood of small-scale farmers in the districts Paramaribo, Commewijne and Saramacca (district level); and last, the analysis of the triangle relationship, which exists between farmers, extension officers and agricultural researchers (institutional level). The book emphasizes on the triangle relationship between Farmers, Extension Officers and Researcher and the factors influencing their relationship, eventually resulting in unsafe vegetable production in Suriname and unsustainable livelihoods in the community.
