Lia Glykiadou White was born in Vathi on Samos, a Greek island in the Aegean Sea. After her graduation she worked as a school teacher in a high school in Arta in the north-west of Greece. She came to England for further education, where she studied at London University for two years. There she met her future husband. She remained in England and worked as a schoolteacher for Greek and English schools.
