In this book, Deziana shares the trauma she experienced in creative ways to turn her pain into power. Deziana also challenges her readers to utilize the writing activities to reflect on the thoughts, feelings, and emotions that arise from the poems in hopes to also encourage many to begin to reflect upon their own triggers. After each writing activity, readers can find breathing exercises to assist with emotion regulation coping skills and to become encourage many to become present in the moment after reflecting. With intention, for poems that may be triggering to some readers, she marks the title with an "*" to grant readers the opportunity to become self-aware of their current headspace. The book aims to help those who experienced trauma to begin their healing journeys.
Autorenporträt
Deziana Torres is a 28 year old Social Worker, creative author, artist, and community advocate. Raised in deep East Oakland, CA, her experiences empowered her to seek ways to attend to the cries of her hood. Understanding trauma and the function impairments it can hold on individuals, is what inspired her to release this creative piece. Her hope is to inspire others to become lights in the midst of their adversities. Deziana Torres' role as a community advocate stems from her involvement in the following organizations: Youth Empowerment Program (UC Davis), Hood Liberation and Healer's Coalition. All organizations aim to fight against recidivism rates, oppression, gentrification, poverty, abuse of power, and more
