In The Big Question, Why? I Have Heard the Cries of My People, Mann Ewing shines some light on some important questions and concerns young Black people have about themselves, and their powerful history and legacy that were stripped away and became cloaked in mystery. The book was birthed out of the author's own heart and search for identity, asking, Why? She then later realized it was a prominent question on the hearts of the Black community without real answers: "After finding the answers I was so desperately searching for, I also realized that Black people are coming into a time of restoration after a long history of oppression and injustice. God has said, 'I have heard the cries of my people'-people who are hurting because of their severe oppression and unjust treatment. Now I am turning things around. Although we cannot ignore the tragedy of the past that has carried over into the present, we can use it to our advantage and begin to rebuild the present and future for the next generation."

Autorenporträt
Dr. Dora A. Mann Ewing lives in Lake Wales, Florida with her husband Cliff. She has a Doctor of Philosophy in Biblical Studies. Growing up in the family church pastored by her parents Bishop Robert W. and Gladys Mann "planted the most powerful seed that I believe anyone can hope to have: a foundational knowledge of Jesus Christ and the gruesome price He paid to set us free from the curse of sin and shame." Ewing's own search for identity and purpose in life as a Black person led her to diligently research the Bible for this story. "In a nutshell, I was seeking answers to my big question: Why? In doing so, these issues were confronted and challenged, and that empty void begin to fill up with knowledge and understanding that planted my feet on a solid rock. The thing I realized was that I was searching for answers, but God gave me more: He gave me comfort that I didn't even know I was searching for." Dora's vision is to open a community center in her hometown to educate young Black people about their unique biblical heritage.
