For lovers of sci-fi, fantasy, and literary satire who want to laugh and restore hope: a dizzying and highly entertaining menagerie of characters swaying between world's end and ecstatic rebirth. Personalities and perspectives interweave as Halycon Sage and friends-human, alien, and animal-try to save the earth while negotiating parallel universes, intergalactic communication snafus, and the vagaries of time travel. One reader writes "Delightful apocalypse ... a beautiful tapestry of today's headlines. It reads like science fiction, but feels like REAL."

Autorenporträt
Karima Vargas Bushnell (M.A., Intercultural Relations) has worked as a college professor, refugee/immigrant job counselor, county court reporter, old-time fiddler, and web moderator for the London Times Online. Born in Reno, she spent part of the 70s hitchhiking around Nevada, California and Washington with a dear friend, an Australian shepherd named Ratlips, and a bright yellow bass violin. Karima, who directs the Light Upon Light Sufi Center and helped found an eco-dream called Sustainable Nevada, has a husband, two cats, three kids, and a secret identity as a part Native American Muslim who plays with an Irish duo. Though she's always thought aliens were a bridge too far (despite some intriguing paranormal experiences), her second novel brings luminous, telepathic, eight-limbed visitors to join the eccentric residents of Dry Creek Gulch. First there was The Life and Times of Halycon Sage, and now, The Book of Squidly Light! Kirkus Reviews writes, "Bushnell is an undeniable writer, with a talent for sentences and scenarios."
