Autorenporträt
August Dillmann (1823-1894) was born at Illingen, Wurttemberg, and educated at the University of Tubingen, where he was a student of Heinrich Ewald. He produced catalogs of Ethiopic manuscripts and an edition of the Bible in Ethiopic, Lexicon linguæ aethiopicæ (1865), and Chrestomathia aethiopica (1866). He taught at the universities of Tubingen, Kiel, Giessen, and Berlin. In 1875-1876 Dillmann was the Rektor of the University of Berlin, and in 1881 he was the President of the International Congress of Orientalists.
