This is an inspiring, often soul searching collection of true stories, featuring the adventures and mishaps of six lifetime friends; The Boys From Hicks Drive. Follow along as they find clever ways to entertain themselves, frequently with disastrous results, in those nostalgic times before video games, cable television, mobile phones, and the internet. And what better place for childhood adventure than Vienna, the town on nearly every Top Ten list of Best Places to Live, and located near the power center of the universe: Washington DC?The Boys began their odyssey on the day they met, and it has continued for nearly sixty years. Their friendships have grown stronger through the years, as they continue to accept the faults and frailties of each other-just like they did when they were kids. Vintage photographs, as well as song lyrics from the Golden Age of Rock and Roll, are used to capture, illustrate, and enhance the exciting tales everyone will wish they had experienced in their youth…but, perhaps, are relieved they didn't.
Autorenporträt
Rick Speight is a native of Vienna, Virginia and a graduate of James Madison High School in Vienna, George Mason University in Fairfax, as well as The University of Texas at Austin. While he has lived and raised a family in Austin, Mobile, Asheville and now Fairhope, Alabama he will always consider 1635 Hicks Drive Vienna, Virginia as that special place called home. After graduating from UT-Austin, Rick spent fifteen years in pulp and paper chemical sales before opening a healthcare staffing agency. He and his wife, Karen recently celebrated their fortieth wedding anniversary, that began at Antioch Christian Church on Beulah Road in Vienna. Their daughter lives in Brooklyn, son and granddaughter in Pensacola, Florida. Rick communicates with his lifelong buddies Dale Hall, Pete Canciglia, and Mark Wood on a regular basis. And when they get together, they tell the same stories over and over, keeping the laughs and adventures intact, as their own memories continue to fade. This is Rick's first book, appropriately dedicated to best friends everywhere, especially The Boys.
