Autism Spectrum Disorder persists throughout life and shows great heterogeneity, ranging from mild personality modifications to severe disability. The importance of the following material is to seek a timely diagnosis in order to obtain a more favorable prognosis for the patient and adequate care. The sections to be covered will be symptomatology, diagnosis and treatment. The relevance of this material lies in providing the community defecologist with expanded and updated information on ASD and intellectual disability, so that it serves as a tool to fully understand the characteristics of these pathologies, contribute to strengthen the capacity of health personnel to provide adequate and effective care to people with this diagnosis and promote optimal standards for their health and welfare and can lead an adequate treatment and improve the quality of life of the patient. The primary objective is to maintain adequate and positive environments, in which the learner feels comfortable, happy, included, fulfilled and is an active part of an educational, family and social society.
