Zollie L. Smith joined the US Army after graduating from high school, was trained as an airborne infantryman, served fifteen months in Vietnam, and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal and the Purple Heart. After his service, Smith earned several degrees, diplomas, and designations and worked in a variety of careers, including as a police officer and detective, postal inspector, senior pastor, assistant district superintendent and executive director of U.S. Missions Assemblies of God . He and his wife, Phyllis, have six daughters.
