And it fulfilled the purpose for which I had bought it perfectly, namely to bridge the waiting time. No more, but also no less.
The plot implements an original idea and, after a few initial lulls, is quite exciting. The language is characterised by short, simple sentences, which suited me as a non-native speaker. I had entertaining hours with this novel.
However, one should not be too demanding, because the characters are quite stereotypical and the plot is not very credible. In any case, I have my doubts about a cancer-stricken philosophy lecturer turning into an unerring sniper to save her teenage daughter. There are rows of child abductions, a policeman is shot dead in the street, but none of this puts the kidnappers - who had no previous criminal experience - in any difficulty. Nor is any development of the characters apparent.
But well, my appetite for reading doesn't always have to be satisfied with starred literary cuisine, in this case it was just rather average fast food.
