Longitudinal studies that have followed same village or set of villages over time have a special place in the literature on economic and social transformation in rural areas. By bringing together different contributions from the tradition of longitudinal village studies, the book aims to illustrate the range of analytical and policy issues that can be addressed, highlight the problems and potentials of the longitudinal method, and encourage more work in thistradition.
