In August of 1868, Ellen White had what she called "an impressive dream" and it was subsequently recorded as "Travelling the Narrow Way" in her book Life Sketches (p.190). It was also recorded in Volume 2 of the Testimonies to the Church (p.594). The dream showed a group travelling a path along the face of a cliff towards an unknown goal. Eventually their path came to an abrupt end at a steep and treacherous chasm with no way over except for ropes let down from above. She ended the telling of her dream by stating "This dream needs no comment." But for over 150 years, the dream has been frequently misunderstood. Does the Christian life consist of nothing more than pain and fear? Is the Christian supposed to spend their entire experience in such doubt and confusion and at the end not even know who their Savior is?, but to at last cry out with those in the dream "What holds the cord?" So what then is the path? What are the ropes? Where are the people headed? What is the chasm? What is the green field beyond the chasm? We hope we can begin to discover the answer to these questions, and we pray that the answers may revolutionize your Christianity.
