Formerly known as Purum tribe, the Chothe tribe of Manipur is one of the widely discussed and debated tribes of India signifying international relevance among the anthropologists and sociologists because of their changing identity and practice of clan based cross-cousin preferential type of marriage system. The present work is a field based fresh finding on the identity, genetic markers, physical make-up and microevolution of the tribe. The hard earned research findings shall be a treasure-trove in the bookshelf of learned academicians, researchers and students particularly those who are working on tribal study and anthropology.
