For Carolyn, as a child, books were the vehicle for escaping to other worlds. Her Aunt Lillian was a one-room school teacher. When the little school closed, the books were going to be destroyed, so her Dad took them and they were deposited in a room in their barn. One of her favorites was a book about China, with pictures of the Great Wall, rice paddies and rickshaws. Another book took her to Paris where a little girl looked in the bakery window longing for a bread roll. Little Women let her be part of a family of all girls whose father was away in the war. She loved the house they lived in although she never saw it!
All through school Carolyn devoured books, but then with graduation came a job, marriage and wonderful children. Reading for Carolyn began to take a back seat, but something happened after the children were grown. In fact, many of the things her adult children shared with her sometimes began a little cartoon story in her head. A description of a professor at her daughter's university who wore tennis shoes with his suit and the great horned owl who had a run in with her oldest son soon became mini-stories. Some stories simply take the reader back to a different, maybe simpler time - like The Christmas Mouse. A Cat in the Castle allows a peek into a Scottish castle, where "Charles Edward Stuart, better known as Charlie the Cat lives.
Carolyn is a storyteller who loves to take children on wonderful adventures that inspire imagination and a love for reading.
