He graduated from a small high school in rural Illinois, ROWVA High School. He then attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, he graduated with a Major in Sociology, and a Minor in Journalism. He then worked as a Juvenile Detention Counselor for the next 34 years, and raised his only son on his own. The only writing he did was a few editorials in the local newspaper. He retired a few years before he turned 60. He now has 3 beautiful grandchildren. "The Christmas Quilt" was originally written as a short story for his grandchildren. Friends and family enjoyed the read, so he decided to publish the story. The author's son stated that, "my dad has always been good with words, I heard a lot of interesting stories growing up as a teen. Since he became a grandfather to girls his words have become much nicer!
