The African choice of "The Church as Family of God" needs therefore to be complemented by other traditional images if African ecclesiology is to avoid the pitfalls of a one-sided theology of the Church.

The Author: Pius Benson, born 1965 in Mbiabong Ikpe (Nigeria) is a priest of the Catholic Diocese of Ikot Ekpene, ordained 1992. His post-ordination assignments include teaching, pastoral experience as Curate in various parishes and hospital administration. He holds a B.Phil, and a B.Th. from the Pontifical Urban University, Rome, a Lic.Th. and a D.Th. from the Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule Sankt Georgen, Frankfurt am Main (Germany).
