The Clinician's Handbook: Essential Knowledge for Mental Health Professionals provides readers with a working familiarity with a range of topics that clinicians in schools, private practice, and community agencies, as well as other mental health settings, are likely to confront at some point in their careers. The text reviews essential topics that enhance professional competence and confidence, offers information about various treatment approaches, and includes recommendations for additional resources. Readers learn about treating clients who've experienced sexual abuse, self-harm, eating disorders, issues related to LGBTQIA+ identity, suicidal thoughts, tendencies, or actions, trauma and violence, grief and bereavement, homelessness, and the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic. Each chapter begins with a brief introduction, followed by an authentic case study, as well as content that covers prevalence, developmental influences, digital media, assessment, treatment options and considerations, issues of diversity, counselor issues, and ethical concerns. Providing readers with a complete and holistic understanding of contemporary issues related to mental health and how to treat them, The Clinician's Handbook is an exemplary resource for counseling courses and programs at the graduate level, new-to-the-field clinicians, clinical supervisors, and skilled clinicians interested in expanding their knowledge and skillsets.
