This book makes the reader aware of the phenomenon of coherence in a given narrative. Indeed, the way to read a text, a story, to understand it and to give a substantive commentary on it supposes beforehand a deciphering of the language that renders it, that is to say to build coherence. This one is a whole whose sentences are solidly connected the ones to the others and each statement contains an independent direction of the others which precede or follow. And the acquisition of a single meaning that the statement holds comes from its interrelation with the others that affect the narrative. Moreover, coherence is not an intrinsic property of the text. It is a concept that depends closely on the interpreter: the receiver is led to construct relations that do not necessarily appear in the textual object in question and certain inferences are extrapolations from the knowledge of the world that one supposes to share. The constants and particularities in the author's singular writingare quantified and brought to light by the process of a statistical treatment.
