Docente e ricercatore di storia e civiltà africane presso l'Ecole Normale Supérieure (ENS) dell'Università Marien Ngouabi (Brazzaville, Congo) dal 2009, Joseph ITOUA ha conseguito successivamente i titoli di professore assistente CAMES (2012), docente senior CAMES (2016) e professore ordinario CAMES (2020).
