In 1959, I read an article about cadets from West Point stealing Navy's mascot. The NAVY goat. I thought that that was cool. I use to think of many ways to steal the goat and not get caught. This is when I started to write the book. In 1992, I read another article about Army cadets trying to steal the Navy goat again. About at the same time I read an unrelated article about the Commander in Chief's trophy. I read more about it and I said to myself that it would be great if the trophy could be stolen. I wrote more notes in the book.
