Thika town, in central Kenya is one of the most heavily industrialized municipalities in the Kenya. Its complexity and range of industrial activities offers a serious challenge to town planners and engineers in terms of ensuring that industrial growth keeps pace with environmental protection. The concerns for environmental pollution have damaging effects on human health and millions of people in the world are at risk. These adverse effects may lead to premature deaths. Over three hundred thousand people living in Thika and its environs are exposed to industrial spews from these industries. The public outcries from the residents of Thika Municipality ranged from cough (general) and chronic cough, respiratory diseases in children, skin diseases, and stress related problems to corrosion of roofs. However, despite the concerns with which this matter has been dealt with, it would appear that a clear understanding of the possible role of industrially related environmental factors and the health of resident community has not yet been established. The book will be very beneficial to the lecturers in Universities, undergraduates, postgraduates and community based organization.
