Nowadays, more and more people are playing video games or watching others play, especially Generation Z. The phenomenon of competitive video gaming, also known as e-sports, has become an important topic in our society. The literature shows that e-sports has advantages that can also be of interest to educational institutions. However, e-sports still play a subordinate role in Austrian schools. In this thesis, a qualitative study was conducted in 16 interviews with experts, who were divided into two groups. There are two options for implementing e-sports in schools: as an elective subject or as a supplement to existing subjects. Inclusion as a compulsory subject is considered unsuitable by the interviewees. However, the inclusion of e-sports in Austrian schools poses challenges, such as the actual implementation, finding suitable teaching staff and acceptance on the part of school management, teachers and parents of pupils.
