The contribution of traditional religious education to moral uprightness has been neglected for a long time. More time and effort have been spent on educational reforms especially on RME to the detriment of the contribution of traditional religion to moral uprightness. Many traditional authorities and some concerned individuals contend that the youth of today turn away from moral values prescribed prudently by the elders and thereby leading to moral decay. For them, the legacy of the past especially of the ancestors, is so valuable that any attempt to discard it is a total abandonment of the ancestral values. In their opinion an essential part of that legacy being discarded are the moral values concerning uprightness of life handed down from generation to generation.
