This is a unique area of research that has not been given much attention in the context of the dynamic changes occurring in Ethiopia over the past five decades. This period marks the rise and fall of at least three regimes with corresponding political and policy perspectives on the nature and role of mass based organizations in public life. Within this period of change, the past three decades have especially been tumultuous and transformative for these organizations. In this context, this work of research makes a valuable contribution to the wealth of knowledge in the area and could serve as an important starting point for further academic discourse and research.
