This book illustrates the diversity that exists in the distance learning environment. Matters of currently vetted Language Teaching/Learning Materials are examined through the findings from the case studies done in three cities of Tanzania, that is, Morogoro, Mbeya and Dar es Salaam. The findings show what was obtained from field work. It provides a discussion of the findings provided. Attention is given to many emerging issues in the rapidly changing environments for the usefulness of currently vetted teaching/learning materials used for language teaching by distance. Much is discussed on these materials control, access, quality and efficiency. The book also provides a theoretical framework and teaching model for improving the academic performance of distance language learners. The essence of the model is the conception of the distance language learners capability of using the media in the learning process to enhance her or his academic performance. The final chapter gives some conclusions and looks ahead to kinds of possible other investigations on the similar field and to the frameworks which have been developed to understand the teaching/learning materials.
