When Brendan McPhelan and his ill-tempered wife begin highly contentious divorce proceedings, Brendan's only goal is to get custody of his children. Brendan ingeniously invents the Dakapa Adventurers Club as a way to spend more time with his kids. Then the real adventure begins. The chapter had as many activities as necessary and they were always set up at times when I would not otherwise have seen the kids. The meetings were held in my apartment and we used the time to do school work or play games or just sit around and talk. The trips were the best part. We replaced our t-shirts with Dakapa sweatshirts as the weather got colder and visited the Liberty Science Center, Medieval Times, the Watchung Reservation, the Paper Mill Playhouse, the circus, an aquarium and anywhere else we felt like going. That wasn¿t an easy year in our lives but I always tried to make sure that the Dakapa Adventurers Club was something that Paddy and Kate could look forward to. The time that you get to be a kid is much too brief and if I could wish them just one thing it would be to have as many happy childhood memories as I do.
