The Darkness Cannot Keep Us tackles multiple difficult and widespread subjects such as grief over lost loved ones, post-traumatic stress and physical/emotional abuse. Having experienced these situations and their consequences, Ellis can speak to these subjects with an understanding others might not possess. She shares her journey from the moment of her conception, bringing about an understanding of cellular memory and how it affects us all. Through her book, Ellis wants to bring a message of hope and the always-present possibility to make changes for the better. Ellis difficult past, her decision to welcome spirituality and science together and her positivity provide an example of hope for those who might be dealing with issues of their own. The Darkness Cannot Keep Us is a journey of hope and promise arising like a Phoenix out of the ashes of destitution and despair.
