Jerry Ray Holcomb is a big, mean redneck from Tung, Mississippi, who believes Satan has kept him from being killed or thrown in jail in his criminal endeavors. When Holcomb posts a short tribute to Satan, which boasts of the fun people would have if they stopped honoring Christ and enjoyed a devil-may-care lifestyle, a majority of the people agree. Thus begins a robbing, raping, and killing spree in the dog days of summer, as those who hungered for excess in the past but were cowed by Christian ideology feel set free to plunder and pillage in the little town of Tung. Lorrie Woodson is both bright and beautiful. When her former father-in-law gets wind of the violence in Tung and worries about his grandchildren's safety, he asks Lorrie to come back to Dallas and offers her a position as Director of Human Resources for Woodson Oil and Gas. But Martin Woodson, Junior later dies of a stroke, his son has a nervous breakdown, and Lorrie is cast into the role of acting chairman, CEO, and president of the Woodson Foundation. She concludes that since the devil has been protecting Jerry Ray Holcomb, it's possible he has had a hand in her own promotion, as well as the tragedies befalling the Woodson family-and she suspects Satan has taken a life form in the very man she wants more than anyone...
