David Brown has been Professor of Modern History at the University of Southampton since 2012, having previously taught at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow. He has published widely on nineteenth century British history including a major biography of Lord Palmerston (Yale University Press, 2010). He held a Leverhulme Major Research Fellowship, 2019-22.
